At Avanta Clinic, we believe Obesity is a chronic disease resulting from multiple factors that should be addressed and treated appropriately. However, for healthy people suffering only from obesity, insurance often does not cover the cost of treatment.
We have built a medication assisted weight loss program to help people suffering from obesity.
Costs:
Medication Assisted Weight Loss Program is an out-of-pocket program and will not be billed to insurance.
Initial Visit: $180
Subsequent Visits: $125
Pregnancy Test for women in the appropriate age group: $30
In office testing (e.g. Pregnancy test, EKG, Hemoglobin A1c) are extra out of pocket costs. For a list of these costs, please see our Self-Pay Pricing page.
Labs: We offer discounted lab services with competitive out-of-pocket rates. You may choose to use your insurance for lab services, but Avanta Clinic cannot guarantee coverage.
What to Expect:
This program is for evaluation and treatment program with medications only.
This program is not a comprehensive weight loss program. It does not include nutrition, behavioral therapy and or/addressing other multifactorial factors that may be contributing to obesity.
The provider will take a detailed history during the initial visit to evaluate if you are a candidate to be started on medications for weight loss.
If you need other services, e.g. nutrition and/or behavioral therapy for eating disorders you will be referred back to your PCP.
You will need regular follow-ups with providers at Avanta Clinic (frequency will be based on provider evaluation). If fail to keep your follow up appointments your medications will not be refilled.
Some medications (e.g. phentermine) are controlled substances. You may be asked to submit a urine sample for drug screening (for additional out of pocket cost). Failure to submit urine sample will result in termination of contract and medications will not be refilled.
Depending on medication used, you may be required to get additional tests done for out-of-pocket costs.
Common Medications Used in this program include:
Phentermine
Topiramate
Qsymia (combination of Phentermine/Topiramate ER)
Bupropion/Naltrexone (Contrave)
Semaglutide (Ozempic)
Metformin
Orlistat
Plenity
All medications are contraindicated in pregnancy. We strongly recommend all women of child-bearing age to use contraception. Furthermore the medication should be stopped as soon as you decide to become pregnant and/or find out you are pregnant.
If we decide to start medications that are used for diabetes (e.g. metformin, semaglutide), you will be asked to use a continuous glucose monitoring device (e.g. Freestyle Libre) which is additional out of pocket cost.
Any labs to monitor safety or medications may also be out of pocket.
(Your insurance may or may not cover the cost of these medications. Avanta Clinic LLC will not do any prior-authorizations or call your insurance company to ensure coverage for these medications).
Please Note: Based on provider evaluation, if you are not a candidate for medications, there will not be any refunds for the time the provider spent on evaluation.
